FreeGIS.net "fallout" presented an open source solution for the management of Protected Areas at AGIT 2012
The 19Th conference of AGIT
www.agit.at was held in Salzburg (Austria) from July 3 to 5. This conference has been the most important and largest event about geographical information in Austria, Switzerland and Germany since
1994. It is organized by the Center for Geoinformatics at the University of Salzburg. The University together with the Austrian Academy of Science also organizes the IG Forum, which is a parallel conference
but in English; GIS experts from all over the world take part to this conference.
R3GIS presented a report on "WebGIS tools for the mangement of protected areas". The open source solution
used components which were developed within the project FreeGIS.net in order to create a platform for the management and communication for the Wienerwald Biosphere Park in Austria. The goal is
to create open sources, that allow the protected area to create WebGIS portals and applications to manage, share and update information on biodiversity, management interventions, community involvement
and tourism. The suite of PAMGIS tools ( Protected Area Management GIS) was created in collaboration with the Institute of Ecology E.C.O of Klagenfurt in Austria. This center is specialized in the management
of protected areas.

ISPIRE Conference 2012 ... A pleasant surprise for the Italian Geomatics
http://inspire.jrc.ec.europa.eu/events/conferences/inspire_2012/
The conference INSPIRE 2012 ended on June 27 in Instanbul.
This year the conference focused on the following topic: "Sharing environmental information sharing innovation". For those who could not take part in this important international event
we suggest the exhaustive report of Roger Longham on SDI Magazin http://www.sdimag.com/20120629948/INSPIRE-Conference-2012-%E2%80%93-The-Whole-Story.html and the comment full of ideas and reflections suggested by Max Zotti in his blog, here: http://www.massimozotti.it/2012/06/inspire-istanbul-chiamafirenze.html.
The next year's edition will be held in Florence (Italy), this is a great satisfaction for the Italian geomatics community and one more reason to follow the preparatory stages of the events and
bring their contributions.
Road map and "Stati Generali dell'Innovazione"
On June 6 in Bologna it was held the meeting of "Digital
rights and data : the basis for smart cities and communities " organized by the association "Stati Generali dell'Innovazione " , the Italian region Emilia Romagna and federations ASITA,
GFOSS and AM/FM GIS. The work was attended over 130 technicians and operators interested in the following topics:
• Geographical Information innovative infrastructures for efficient
Smart cities and communities

The proposal to use the wiki section
of the website SGI was very much appreciated and shared by the promoters. The interested readers can join the working groups which were created during the Open talk and help in the updating of the texts
discussed in Bologna, here: http://www.statigeneralinnovazione.it/wiki/index.php?title=Pagina_principale. "Stati Generlai dell'Innovazione" and the involved geomaticas association are already
working in order to organize events about this topics during the public meetings planned for the coming autumn: conference AM / FM GIS (Rome, 26-27 September, more news later), Smart City Exhibition
(Bologna, October 29 to 31), ASITA Conference (Vicenza, 6-9 November), GFOSSDAY 2012 (Turin, November 14 to 16) and other events.

Public discussion about the document "Recommendations to the public administration for the establishment and development
of a technological reference model for the Smart City" Digit PA
The working group "Smart City" DigitPA has developed a document about this topic. The contents include a
proposal for a reference model, an idea of governance for the Smart City system, which suggests a methodological approach in specific areas (eg. mobility, urban public safety, e-education, e-government).
The Recommendations want to give to the public administrations an instrument for the full realization of the paradigm of the Smart Cities in a multidisciplinary and integrated way that allows the effective
construction of smart places, starting from the city's needs and goals that we want to achieve through the digital innovation.
This document is available on DigitPA, http://www.digitpa.gov.it/smart-city-pa-consultazione-pubblica-dello-schema-documento. We remember that from July 3 to August 19, 2012 the public consultation on data transmission is open in order to share the drafting of the final text with a wide range of specialists and administrations.
