The Virtual Machine FreeGIS.net distributed at the conference ASITA 2013  and SFScon13
 
The annual conference of the Federation ASITA (Riva del Garda, November, 5 to 7th) provided an opportunity to distribute the Virtual Machine FreeGIS.net. The framework was also officially presented during the event SFScon13, which was held on November 15 in Bolzano.
The Virtual Machine FreeGIS.net allows the Reference Implementation users to use it very easily In fact, the applications are already configured to allow the users to interact immediately and explore the sample data and services included in the reference implementation.
The tool can be acquired from the link https://www.freegis.net/web/guest/virtual-machine  but is also distributed on DVD.

SFScon13 guest of TIS Innovation Park: a success beyond expectations!
 
As we already mentioned in the previous  newsletter , the 2013's edition of the South Tyrol Free Software Conference (an annual initiative of the Free Software Center South Tyrol -Area Free Software & Open Technologies of TIS innovation park), took place on November 15th in Bolzano . The conference , which was the closing event of the FreeGIS.net'sproject  , was a huge success  with more than 250 participants and several famous speakers (see the program ,  https://www.sfscon.it/program/2013/ and the event's announcement http://www.tis.bz.it/aree/free-software-open-technologies/news/business-und-journalismus-mit-freier-software-2?set_language=it)
It was an important opportunity to show the importance of  supporting the use of Free Software in the economic world in order to reach   a higher level  of innovation and increase the competitiveness of South Tyrol.
One of the most important moments of the conference was  the SFSaward  2013, which was given  to Christian Peer, with the following motivation  : "Through his activities he has shown that a successful business can be based on Free Software and innovation,moreover, create  new jobs with a stable growth, profit and sustainability "
The final event of "FreeGIS.net", during which also the project results were presented , hosted the workshops "FreeGIS.net OGC , INSPIRE Standards" and "FreeGIS.net Reference Implementation", integral parts of the project .

The first ASSORAP's workshop had a great success.
 
As we announced in the last newsletter, the workshop "La filiera degli APR: criticità ed opportunità del contesto italiano" took place in Rome on  November 13 and was organized by the  Italian Association for Light RPAS(Light Remotely Piloted Aircraft Sistems,), ASSORPAS, http://www.assorpas.it/.
ASSORPAS , was established about one  year ago, has over 50 members , including professionals and small businesses. This very promising  sector of   Geographic Information ( but not only) has  been mostly in the background for now ,because of the hundreds of operators throughout Italy . The workshop follows a survey conducted among the members and a request to  ENAC  for having a national regulation, in order to work with certain requirements , standardized systems and adequate insurance profiles for  this new type of activity.
ENAC announced that the national regulation of the "Remotely Piloted Aircrafts" will be published by the end of 2013; this will be followed by a newsletter that explains the different possible applications ,as well as the evaluation criteria for the various risks. Moreover, ENAC will publish the the "Guidelines" to help all those who have no aviation experience- with a lot of examples. These documents will be available in early 2014.

The workshop was sponsored by ASITA , AM / FM GIS and Stati Generali dell'Innovazione. In The exponent of ASITA invited ASSORPAS to collaborate in deciding the topics for the next ASITA Conference (November 2014), the proposal was particularly appreciated.

Open Data Day 2014

On December, 4 there will be   a meeting between "Stati Generali dell'Innovazione" and the other stakeholders in order to organize the Open Data Day . The meeting will be held in Bologna .

•    11:30 am - discussion - locations and topics
•      1:30 pm lunch break
•     2:30 pm- Opinion-action plan
•     3:30 pm  - steps towards the establishment of the Italian Open Data (discussion of the proposed actions , missions and gathering. interests, next steps)
• 5pam – closure of the meeting

In particular, we want to  point out the temporary  slots dedicated to the establishment of an Italian Open Data Institute (http://www.agendadigitale.eu/smart-cities-communities/258_un-istituto-per-gli-open-data.htm). INSPIRE as opportunity: harmonization of datasets for interoperability at regional level
 
AMFM GIS Italy, CISIS-CPSG (Interregional Center for Information, Geographical and Statistical Systems  - Permanent Centre  for Geographical Systems) and the European Project smeSpire, organized a 3 webinars, the aim of which is 'to encourage the sharing of methods and  operational solutions for the harmonization of spatial datasets for the interoperability at regional level. The third webinar is scheduledfor  December 10, 2013,  11:00am  to 1pm hours
