Project
WP 3
This work package is based on the analysis of GIS formats and standards (such as WMS, WFS, WCS), in line with the guidance of the OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium), the aim is to identify characteristics,
complementarity and the need for further development for multi-language capabilities.
The expected result of this action is the participation in the committee of the Open Geospatial Consortium and
the drafting of guidelines for the extension of the already mentioned standards so that the geographical indications can be handled simultaneously in different languages.
The realization
of this work package is therefore closely linked to the activities of the Open Geospatial Consortium. It is a shared and open procedure for the modification/change of the existing standards or for
the proposal of new standards. The steps that have to be made are:
Detailed analysis of the existing GIS standards and formats
This first step requires a detailed analysis of the already published standard and documented in order to identify those aspects
that do not meet the typical needs of multilingual regions as South Tyrol and large parts of Switzerland(including the canton of Graubünden ). All the published standards will be analyzed. At the same time,
proposals that contain aspects of "multilingual" will be evaluated among the members of the OGC potential partners for the changes will be indentified.
Identification of the unmet needs of already existing standards
For each standard where aspects the "multilingual" aspects are important it will be analyzed if the "multilingual" functionalities are sufficient.
The proposal OGC of the modified standards
This task involves the documentation of the issues of OGC, the participation in discussion groups , the drafting of new proposal and its discussion and approval. OGC provides for the proposal of new standards
and the modification of already existing standards with specific procedures (http://www.opengeospatial.org/ogc/process), which will be
applied by the project. One of these procedure is the reference implementation provided in WP 4
